Cheap weekend away?

Our Florida correspondent, the Other Kent says:

It turns out that they are not opening the lifts for NORBA at Sugar
Mountain until Thursday A.M., and that is for inspection and
practice. So, there isn't really going to be an opportunity to ride
before, and not much of an opportunity to ride during the comp. Plan
B involves going to Snowshoe Mountain WV, leaving Tuesday the 6th
for the 16 hour drive to Snowshoe. Ride Snowshoe until Friday
afternoon, then drive 4.5 hours to Sugar Mountain, NC to ride the old-
fatboy class at Sugar Saturday and watch the big dog downhill finals
on Sunday, then leave NC around 1 P.M. Sunday and flee back to WPB,
arriving around Midnight.

We have access to the FreerideSouth.com 3-bedroom condo for $150 per
night. This is slopeside, and does not really get much better for
riding Snowshoe. There is literally a private trail from the condo
parking lot into the regular Snowshoe trail system, and the lifts/
shuttle bring you to within 3 or 4 flat blocks of the condo. (As we
all know, riding uphill is for Bangkok ladyboys.) For those of you
interested in the financial details, I am picking up the rental tab
for the first van. Gas is expected to be about $300 split 3 or 4
ways. Condo: $450 split 3 or 4 ways (3 nights). Motel in NC: $100
split 2 ways. Trail Passes: $85 (3 days). Food: $20/day. NORBA entry
fee $65, So the total per person should be about $465 +- per person,
plus alcohol, which will probably be another $400 each.

Which is all very nice, but our cheery Septic chum hasn't bothered to say exactly which weekend it is. What a rotter. If you're in Florida soon, maybe you can catch a lift...

I apologize for seemingly having fallen off the Earth. I recently met a girl at the bike shop who had just moved here from California, and apparently mistook me for a charming, successful individual. After a month of that, I was barely able to move my limbs. She has now figured out that I am not suitable for marriage (i.e. $20,000 worth of bicycles and no retirement account) and has moved on, leaving me free to get back to my usual heavy schedule of slandering passersby, crashing bicycles into trees and composing the sort of screed which makes normal folks cringe. I have also moved into much larger digs, with a garage suitable to store and work on bikes, as long as I don't get any crazy ideas, like trying to put my car in there. So, the NORBA at Sugar Mountain is two weekends away, and I am figuring that it is too late for you Negroes to travel over here for that event, so lets see if we can't figure out some other excuse to get your pimply white arses over here for some fun in the sun.
